South Africa’s Imperial To Pay $27 Million For UAC Nigeria’s Subsidiary


South African logistics firm, Imperial Holdings said on Monday it would pay $27 million in cash for a 49 percent stake in a distribution unit of Nigeria’s UAC, MDS Logistics.

MDS is a subsidiary of the conglomerate and it distributes consumer goods in Africa’s most populous country.
MDS has an impressive network of 50 distribution centres in 31 out of Nigeria’s 36 states, linking a controlled number of manufacturers and manufacturers’ representatives with their widely spread distributors, wholesalers and retailers in key cities around the country.
This network strength covering a catchment area of over 400 cities and villages and its mastery of the distribution business in Nigeria account for MDS Logistics’ customer base of over 50 clients which are leading blue chip and multinational companies in drinks, food and beverages, telecommunications, pharmaceuticals and chemicals industries.
