The Hollywood Reporter Nominated for 26 SoCal Journalism Awards



2012 Issue 26: 'Dark Knight Rises' Shooting

Matthew Belloni and Stephen Galloway have been nominated for print journalist and entertainment journalist of the year, respectively, while THR.com earned a nomination for best news website.

The Hollywood Reporter has been honored with 26 nominations for its original reporting from the Los Angeles Press Club's 55th Southern California Journalism Awards.
Executive editor Matthew Belloni has been nominated for print journalist of the year and Stephen Galloway, THR's executive editor, features, has earned a nomination for entertainment journalist of the year.
Editor-at-large Kim Masters, who was named last year's print journalist of the year, was nominated for best news investigative, magazines, for her piece on the final days of Michael Jackson, "The Most Litigated Star in Hollywood." Also nominated in that category were Gary Baum and Daniel Miller for their work on “The Most Sinful Period in Hollywood History,” about the Blacklist and THR's own hand in that dark chapter in Hollywood history.
In personality profile, magazines, THR earned two nominations: Music editor Shirley Halperin scored a nod for "Snoop from Dogg to Lion," while Galloway earned a second nomination for "The Dichotomy of Denzel."
Film editor Gregg Kilday earned a nomination for entertainment reviews/criticism/column for The Race, while chief film critic Todd McCarthy also was recognized in the same category for his essay on the Dark Knight Rises shootings in Aurora, Colorado.
Senior TV writer Lacey Rose nabbed a nod for best entertainment news of feature, magazines, for her cover story on Modern Family.
In the online category, THR.com was nominated for best website, news organization.
The staff of THR.com earned a nomination in the news category for its coverage of the Dark Knight Rises shooting and THR awards blogger/analyst Scott Feinberg scored a nomination in the personality profile category for "Jon Bon Jovi, One of the True 'Stand Up Guys,' Opens Up As Never Before." And McCarthy's review of The Dark Night Rises earned a nod in the best entertainment commentary/reviews category.
Photo director Jennifer Laski and her team earned two nominations in the TV category for documentary short for their work on "Conan O'Brien" and "Breaking Bad." THR.com was nominated for best multimedia package for its "THR's Oscar Roundtable Videos." Four of five nominations in the entertainment photo category went to Laski and photo editors Jenny Sargent and Carrie Smith and creative director Shanti Marlar. The photo and art department were also honored with two nominations in the portrait category and one in the sports photo category.
Jessica Chou was nominated for photojournalist of the year.  “Emmy Drama Actor Roundtable” earned a nod for best feature documentary.
Contributing editor Tina Daunt was nominated in the social media category for "best use of social media to enhance and/or promote a story" for “President Obama Has Private Meeting With Young Stars at Beverly Hilton."
