Urgent appeal to help stressed-out puss Georgie find a home

An urgent search is underway to find a home for a 14-year-old cat who is finding life without a home particularly difficult.

Tabby Georgie was handed into Cats Protection's National Cat Adoption Centre in Chelwood Gate, Sussex, five months ago after her previous owners emigrated.

Having struggled to adjust to life outside her familiar home, staff found her a short-term foster home but her carer cannot keep her after June 17 prompting an urgent appeal to find her a home before she has to return to the centre.

Deputy Manager of the National Cat Adoption Centre Tania Marsh explained: "At 14, poor Georgie had a stressful time leaving her owners and was being overlooked time and time again by prospective new owners.

"She became very unhappy and we were fortunate to find a volunteer who agreed to have her in her own home on a short-term basis. Now we really want to find her a new owner or another foster carer so she can remain in a home environment.

"Georgie is a lovely cat, but she learnt inappropriate play as a kitten so she does have a tendency to attack feet and hands but we have found fishing toys a great distraction for this.

"She also has a kidney problem, needs a special diet and can overgroom her legs from time to time and so may need short courses of medication and veterinary care.

"Despite everything, Georgie is most certainly a loving cat, and if the right owner can see past her difficulties they will be taking on a really sweet and fun pet.

"It seems that all these small problems have proved a barrier to Georgie finding the right owner, and we understand she may not be everyone's ideal pet. We know she needs a very special, patient owner and we hope to find that person before June 17."
